Hunter River Community Fridge

The Rural Municipality of Hunter River Council is pleased to announce the opening of the Hunter River Community Fridge.  Located outside at the Hunter River Community Centre, 19816 Route 2, the Community Fridge will provide a space for residents of the area to donate perishable and nonperishable food items if they are able and those who may need a helping hand to take what they may need.

Islanders from one end of the Province to the other, in both urban and rural centers are experiencing rapidly rising costs of putting food on the table for themselves and their families.  It is hoped that with the establishment of the Hunter River Community Fridge will allow those in the Municipality and the surrounding areas access to help close to home.  The space will be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round and has been made possible with funding from the Provincial Government’s Island Community Food Security Initiative, donations from suppliers as well as time and dedication from volunteers.

Special thanks to North Rustico Home Hardware, Kennedy Metals, Dalmac, Fitzgerald and Snow, McGrath Electric, Island Coastal and our volunteers for making this project possible.

Food donations can be dropped off anytime to the fridge itself.  Food or monetary donations can also be dropped off  to the Municipal Office Mon-Thurs between 9 am and 2 pm or Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 7:30 pm.  E-transfer donations can be made to hunterriverfridge@gmail.com
